8000IS FAQ
How do I empty the water out of the 8000IS?
- First, turn off the boiler and allow it to cool. Open the blowdown valve located on the side of your 8000IS near the bottom. This will simultaneously empty the tank and clear out scale buildup. Please make sure you are near a drain or sink when opening this valve to catch the water.
How large is this ironing system?
- The dimensions of the 8000IS are 12.25”x 14.25”x 20.5”, or 31 x 36 x 52 cm.
What is the maximum steam pressure of the 8000IS?
- Up to 60 PSI, or 4.1 Bar
How heavy is the 8000IS?
- 26 lbs, or 11.8 kg not including the iron before any water is added
How long does the boiler take to heat up?
- 20-30 minutes
How long is the steam hose connected to the iron?
- 7’, or 2.13m
What electrical requirements does this system have?
- The 8000IS requires a 110/120V wall outlet set up to provide 20-amp service
Why does the plug look different than a standard North American plug?
- The 8000IS requires 20-amp service, which is indicated by one of the upper prongs being sideways. If you do not already have 20-amp service, you will need to have an electrician make the conversion for you on an existing outlet. Luckily it is a very fast and inexpensive procedure that an electrician can perform easily.
What is the difference between the 8000IS and 9000IS?
- While both of these systems offer an uninterrupted steam supply through hooking up a direct water feed, the 9000IS offers additional flexibility. Not only is it on wheels so it can be easily moved around, but it contains a cabinet below the boiler where you can keep a bucket filled with water that the 9000IS can draw from instead of through a direct feed line. For this reason, the 9000IS is also about twice as tall as the 8000IS.
Where can I find the Care and Maintenance Instructions for this item?
- The Care and Maintenance guide can be found through this link.
What sort of water should I use in my boiler?
- While any water can be used, using cleaner water will extend the lifetime of your boiler. That being said, DO NOT use distilled water in this particular boiler. It will prevent the sensor from being able to read the water level and prevent it from automatically filling properly. If hard water must be used, ensure you are following the care and maintenance instructions found in your user manual by draining your boiler out regularly and avoid allowing water to sit and settle for long periods of time inside. We recommend draining your boiler at least once a week to prevent scale buildup.
Ironing is causing my fabrics to shine. How can I avoid this?
- Shine is often caused by applying excess heat to the material in question. The easiest way to avoid this is to purchase one of our 2000IA iron shoe accessories to reduce direct heat and allow the iron to glide easier over your fabric. If for some reason you are unable to do this, you can reduce the chance of shine by not allowing the iron to sit on the fabric in one place for too long. You can also turn down the thermostat on your iron, but keep in mind that if you turn it down too low it can cause the iron to leak.
My iron is leaking. How do I stop this from happening?
- Leaking can be caused simply by having your iron thermostat set too low. Sometimes you will notice initial “leaking” from your iron when you first go to use it due to condensation left in the hose from a prior use. This can also happen if your boiler has been overfilled but will stop once water levels have decreased to a lower level. If you have ruled out all of these possibilities and the issue persists, please contact our Support Team at support@reliablecorporation.com or call us at 1-800-268-1649.
Why does my boiler switch keep going on and off?
- When the boiler is generating steam, the red light on the boiler switch will be on. When it reaches maximum pressure the light will then go off. This will happen frequently while the unit is in use and is normal.
What is the silicone iron rest for?
- This is a handy accessory that allows you to rest your iron wherever the silicone iron rest is placed to avoid burning or melting anything. The iron rest can even withstand your iron at maximum temperature.
How heavy is the iron?
- The 2100IR iron included with your ironing system weighs 3.9 lbs, or 1.77 kg
If I let my boiler run dry, will it burn out the element?
- While it is not recommended to let your boiler run dry, all Reliable boilers are equipped with a safety reset switch that will automatically shut the unit off if it runs dry in order to save the heating element.
How do I reset the boiler if the safety reset was activated?
- On the side of your unit you will see a black cap that says “Reset”. Unscrew the cap and press the black button underneath to reset your unit.
My boiler was working but now it won’t turn on, or it will turn on but won’t heat. How do I get it working again?
- Try activating the safety reset and check that the unit is properly plugged in and you did not blow a breaker. If the issue persists please contact our Support Team at support@reliablecorporation.com or call us at 1-800-268-1649
Can I use an extension cord?
- It is not recommended to use with an extension cord or power bar/surge protector. If an extension cord/surge protector is absolutely necessary, a cord with an ampere rating equal to or greater than the maximum rating of the iron must be used. A cord rated for less amperage can result in a risk of fire or electric shock due to overheating and will void your warranty. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or tripped over.
